"For three months I was so worried, I couldn't enjoy my food and sleeping. I carried prototypes around with me all day, every day, wondering how I could make a rotary cutter that could be adjusted while it was cutting. If I could do it, my firm could establish its own brand and win honors from Taiwan, " says Roger Lee, general manager of Jon Tai Industrial Co., Ltd. Mr. Lee sighs as he recalls the lack of attention paid to Taiwaness exhibitors at the March 2002 Practical World show in Koeln. When he got back to Taiwan after the show, he lost much sleep and sipped many meals as he mulled over the problem. Finally, he succeeded in creating a pipe cuter with unique new functions - a world first! Roger Lee proudly describes the special features of his newly invented pipe cutter. The adjustment knob can be used to adjust the cutter's zinc alloy rotary blade while cutting. Combining the functions of a mini cutter with the clutch action of a ratchet wrench, the cutter can be operated with a simple up-and-down pumping action. It can also be handled in the same way as a conventional pipe cutter when necessary. The sharp zinc alloy blade cuts cleanly through any pipe, be it copper, aluminum or steel. The cutter sports tough, shock-resistant nylon-fiber composite cladding. To sum up, the tool is light, compact, portable and easy to use. Having started out in 1985 making bicycle accessories, Jon Tai shifted into plumbing tools in 1994. A high point for the then young Mr. Lee came when he won third place in the Taiwan Provincial Technical Skills Competition. Skilled in plumbing and electrical engi-neering, Roger Lee resolved to develop his firm as a plumbing tool manufacturer. Jon Tai's main product lines - pipe cutters, tap (faucet) wrenches and pipe flaring tools - are used for work on hydraulic tubes, refrigeration equipment air conditioning pipes and other applications. Jon Tai is an OEM supplier to major American brands like ACE, Brass Craff. Made of materials like HSS steel and SK2 carbon steel, the blades are both hard and suitably pliable for the given application.
