Being a comprehensive scientific research and engineering setup for the chemical industry, SRICI was formerly subordinate to the Ministry of Chemical Industry. In 1999, SRICI was localized in its subordination, and transformed in structuring into a scientific and technological enterprise with its administrative affairs under the charge of the Shanghai Municipal Economic Commission. The Major research fields of SRICI include stable isotope separation technology, organic polymer technology, chemical engineering, new materials, catalyst technology, chemical fertilizers, fine chemicals, biochemical technology, environmental protection and other specialized subjects. There are at present in this Institute over 1000 staff and workers, of whom 400 are technicians of different specialties. In 2000, SRICI obtained the title of ¡ùShanghai High-tech Enterprise¡ì and in 2001, ¡ùShanghai Intellectual Property Right Demonstration Enterprise¡ì. In 2002, the Scientific Research and Development Caenter of the Institute was approved as an enterprise technological center of Shanghai. SRICI has applied for 132 domestic and 2 foreign petents.
